TEENS & THEIR FAMILIES
Working with teens and their parents to help them overcome anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, manage stress or life challenges is a passion of mine.
Life as a teen has changed a lot in the past decade! Under constant pressure to perform well in school & sports, under constant scrutiny from friends and acquaintances in social circles, and now under the social media spotlight 7/24 – it’s no wonder teens are struggling to remain in control of their emotions and their life.
Perhaps your teen is reaching out for help in ways you don’t understand. If your teen is changing, becoming distant, shutting you out, showing signs of anxiety and depression, or engaging in dangerous activities like cutting or alcohol & drug use, please don’t wait – call me today; these are all cries for help, and your teen is desperately looking for relief. Therapy works. I can help your teen be happy, healthy, successful, and safe, and I can help repair damaged relationships and communications within the family.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY FOR ADULTS
I also work with adults who may be at a crossroads with a relationship or career or have lost their passion and purpose in life.
At some point in life, many of us may question whether we have made the right career choice, are in the right relationship, or are heading in the right direction. Sometimes you can’t get past a significant change or loss. Sometimes we never could make sense of past events, and they affect our lives today. And sometimes, the problem is a little more ambiguous; life feels less colorful, rewarding, and enjoyable than it used to. Maybe alcohol or drugs have taken over our lives.
Individual therapy is a great tool to help get you unstuck and back on track. Therapy is your chance to explore and learn to deal with thoughts, emotions, and challenges you are facing in a non-judgmental, practical way. The goal is to teach you effective ways to navigate life’s challenges.
THERAPY FOR PROFESSIONALS
I work with professionals in demanding careers, helping them deal with anxiety and stress in their professional and personal life.
Too many responsibilities, impossible deadlines, high-pressure situations, conflicts with co-workers or your boss, long hours, or job burnout can impact your mental and physical health and personal and professional relationships. Even a “dream job” can be incredibly stressful, which can affect you negatively in many ways.
During the therapy session, I help identify your specific stressors, help you gain insight and perspective, and teach you strategies and skills for navigating difficult situations.
PATIENT FACING MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS
(Surgeons / Doctors / Nurses)
As a surgeon’s wife, I am intimately familiar with the struggle to balance family life and the responsibility to your patients.
The path you’ve chosen is rewarding but also incredibly demanding. Sometimes, it feels like you’re stretched so thin you can’t possibly meet the expectations of everyone who needs you. And the concept of self-care doesn’t cross your mind.
Devoting your life to saving others comes with an emotional toll, and bad patient outcomes can (and do) deeply affect you. Although it’s your responsibility to remain strong and calm for the patients and their families, you shouldn’t dismiss your own grief. The fallout from those buried feelings resurfaces as anxiety and depression and can impact every aspect of your life.
I’m here to help you. I offer a safe, confidential outlet for your emotions and am educated and trained in evidence-based therapy to relieve your anxiety and depression.
THERAPY FOR NEW MOMS
(Overwhelmed, Exhausted, Stressed Out New Moms)
Remember when you gracefully juggled the roles of a friend, sister, daughter, and partner? Now, a tiny little human has burst onto the scene and become the center of your universe.
You might be wondering what happened to your social life or relationship with your partner. You are probably worried about whether you’re doing a good job as a parent. And you might be feeling like you’ll never sleep again. You’re not alone. I understand what you’re going through. This isn’t merely a new role—it’s an entirely new life.
Struggling with this transition is natural, but for some mothers, the quick hormone change after childbirth can lead to post-partum depression (PPD), making the struggle even harder.
One of my specialties is guiding new moms in developing coping strategies and skills. Whether it’s bringing your life back into balance or dealing with something more serious, I’m here to help. I can lead you back to a place of joy and fulfillment in your role as a new mom.
FAMILY THERAPY
Many issues can affect the family as a whole – dealing with the death of a loved one, an immediate family member struggling with an addiction or mental health diagnosis, a difficult relationship with your teen, divorce, blended families, or an adult child who has returned to live at home.
Family therapy is a safe space for families to come together to learn how to reduce distress and conflict by improving communication and building empathy and understanding between family members.
As a member of three professional organizations, I routinely attend educational conferences and training seminars and keep up with the latest research and techniques to help those struggling with emotional issues and addiction.
I hold an MBA and a Masters degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy.
It always seems impossible until it’s done.
